Kasane, Producer: Owari Shippo
Kasane is a series of stackable boxes developed through the traditional Owari Shippo cloisonné technique. The truncated-cone form is inspired by the sculpted gravel mounds of Ginkaku-ji in Kyoto, while the individual units can be used separately or stacked into larger compositions. The surface is decorated with randomly applied motifs translated into silver-wire cloisonné and enamel. The project was developed around the size limitations of the kiln, with the modular construction allowing scale to be achieved through composition rather than a single larger object.
