MAL Series is a collection developed by Philippe Malouin with AJI PROJECT through a direct exploration of Aji stone and the processes used to work it. The three objects begin with simple operations such as drilling, cutting and splitting, allowing the characteristics of the material and its fabrication to determine their final forms. The table is carved from a solid granite block using two different drilling diameters, while the fruit bowl combines boring, cutting and repeated vertical slices to create ventilation around the fruit. The shelf takes a quarter of a split stone and fixes it to the wall with a steel bracket. Across the series, heavy stone is manipulated through precise operations to produce compact, functional objects.

Description

MAL Series comprises a side table, fruit bowl and wall shelf developed through a direct exploration of stone-working techniques. MAL #1 is carved from a solid granite block using two different drilling diameters; MAL #2 combines boring, cutting and vertical slicing to create a ventilated fruit bowl; MAL #3 transforms a quarter of a split stone into a compact wall shelf, fixed with a steel bracket.
